20 Jul B9 Eco wetsuits: Sustainable Surf
Billabong has created a new product by taking garbage from the ocean, recycling it, and returning it to the ocean.
They are recycling trash such as old fishing nets, clothing, and plastic bottles, and other polyester items, into their new B9 Wetsuit. Consisting of 90% recycled polyester, and 10% spandex to allow movement, this product also saves energy as well as space in a landfill. These wetsuits consume 80% less energy and produce 80% less emissions in their production than normal wetsuits.
Billabong is also making board shorts out of the same material.
These wetsuits retail for $450, but if you trade in an old wetsuit for Billabong to recycle, you save $25. Also, a portion of each sale is donated to the Surfrider Foundation .
