31 Oct PLUMEN, light bulb
By Petz Scholtus
Designer: Nicolas Roope, Hulger
Inspiration: the challenge to persuade the public to use new technology through desire, not guilt.
Roope decided to revamp CFL bulbs to make them more attractive to people, in order to promote their use and hence reduce the energy consumption The result is a technologically similar to a normal CFL but with very different shapes. The doodle-like shapes act as decorative lamps and light sources, eliminating the need for lamp shades. Like CFLs, PLUMEN uses around 20% of the energy of a traditional incandescent bulb.
